The compact and lightweight MP-014A Carbyne Pistol was designed for security forces on ships and stations where the confined spaces made the use of more powerful energy based weapons dangerous and impractical.

The MP-014A fires Linear Acetylenic Carbon (commonly referred to as Carbyne) slugs at an extremely high rate of 9 rounds per second. The carbon slugs do not have enough mass to pose a threat of hull breach, however are effective against body armor and personal shield generators at close range.

One of the major advantages of the Carbyne Pistol is regenerative ammunition. The magazine of the MP-014A consists of a series of carbon sinks. When the pistol is holstered the sinks extract diatomic carbon from the surrounding environment. Accumulating on a charged catalyst plate at the base of the magazine, the captured carbon molecules realign around a seed crystal. As the carbyne block grows it is forced upwards and the curvature of the magazine uniformly fractures the block into 60 micron slugs. In this manner the ammunition block is constantly replenished.

The regeneration process is relatively slow however a full ammo block can yield a thousand rounds. The MP-014 has no internal moving parts, is recoilless and under ideal conditions can fire continuously.
