The CR-012 is a direct descendant of the original Cray & Reynolds Energy Pistol produced back in 2170. Designed for close quarters combat the limited range and accuracy of the CR-012 is offset by its fire power.
Aside from improved power cores little has changed from the original C&R design. The CR-012 still utilizes quick interchange C20N cylinders with six isolated high yield capacitors. Where most modern energy weapons progressively drain a central power cell, the CR-012 delivers each capacitors full charge per round, giving it an exceedingly high output for its size. Also unlike most other energy weapons, the CR has no internal power supply, instead the holster contains a compact XEM power source that rapidly charges spare cylinders.
All in all the CR-012 is a reliable and balanced weapon honoring its long heritage.
